An oblique stress axis in letterforms, tilted to the left as naturally produced by a right-handed calligrapher using a broad-nib pen. The humanist axis is characteristic of Renaissance and Old Style types, in contrast to the rationalist (vertical) axis of Neoclassical and Romantic faces.
