Glossary Term Definition
The area of the page occupied by type and other content, excluding the surrounding margins.
Definition
The textblock (also text block or type page) is the region of the page that contains the composed type, illustrations, and other content — everything within the margins. The proportions and placement of the textblock relative to the page are fundamental decisions in page design, governed by traditions ranging from the medieval canon of proportions to modern grid systems. A well-proportioned textblock creates a harmonious relationship between printed and unprinted space, supporting both readability and visual elegance.
